  1. Alexandra Eala previews her match vs Elina Svitolina
  2. Alexandra Eala’s ranking boost with Elena Rybakina win

Alexandra Eala scored one of the biggest wins of her career yesterday, as she defeated Elena Rybakina in straight sets in Berlin.

It marked one of the bigger upsets that the Filipina superstar has enjoyed in recent memory, not only because of her opponent’s ranking, currently second in the world, but also due to the surface.

Grass is where Rybakina shines, as a former Wimbledon champion, yet she was defeated with relative ease by Alexandra Eala.

In claiming this win and backing up her opening-round victory against Donna Vekic, things do not get any easier for the 21-year-old.

Elina Svitolina is up next to try to quell her run in Berlin, and Eala has been discussing her chances ahead of the match later today.

Speaking ahead of her quarter-final clash later today, Eala is justifiably feeling confident of her chances whilst also respecting the quality of the opponent she is due to face.

She admitted: “Elina is a very consistent player.

“She is obviously a huge fighter with her background and her experience. But she’s also able to be aggressive when she needs to be.

“So I’m expecting a really good match, and I hope to bring out the best and showcase my tennis.”.

Eala also made an interesting comment about Rybakina whilst conducting her on-court interview.

This will be the first-ever meeting between Svitolina and Eala.

Alexandra Eala’s ranking boost with Elena Rybakina win

Having beaten Rybakina, Eala earned the points needed to secure a Wimbledon seeding.

It marks a huge milestone for her, and will afford her a huge chance to score a maiden main draw win at the All England Club.

Having already jumped four places with that win into 31st, there is scope for further progress, should she maintain her form and beat Svitolina.

Another win would see her reach 1557 ranking points and overtake the injured Hailey Baptiste in 30th.

Her best-case scenario, which involves her winning the title in Berlin, would see Eala jump to 23rd in the world rankings. Naturally, this is an unlikely outcome.
